Home MenuServing Legal Documents in a Child Support Case
Delivering legal documents to a person or organization that is part of a legal case is known as “serving” them. Each person or organization that is part of the case is known as a “party.”
The child support process often requires one party to serve the other party or parties.
For example, if a parent who receives support asks the court to hold a hearing on a case, that parent needs to serve the parent who receives support with information about the hearing. They may also have to serve our office as well.
Legal support providers, such as Family Law Facilitators, can explain when to serve the other party or our program.
How You Can Receive Electronic Service
Sending documents by email or other electronic means is called “e-service.”
To receive court documents through e-service, complete the form titled Electronic Service and Notice of Electronic Service Address (EFS-005-CV). Then file the completed form with the court. Finally, serve a filed copy on all parties on your case, including us.
How You Can Serve Documents on Us (Electronically, by Mail, or in Person)
You can serve us by mail and in person. Use the information on the Contact Us page to find the right address.
We also accept electronically served documents. To e-serve us with your documents, email them to eService@csy.cse.ca.gov.
How We Might Be Able to Help You Serve Documents on the Other Parent
In some situations, we might be able to serve the other parent on the case with legal documents. The process is called “pass-on service.”
We can provide pass-on service only for documents that are ready to be served on the other party. We need to have time to get the documents ready for mailing and for the mail to reach the other party.
If you want to know if we might be able to provide pass-on service in your case, call us.
